In response to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent criticism regarding the award of a contract for the Lagos-Calabar coastal road, the Presidency has defended Seyi Tinubu’s right to engage in legitimate business activities.
The statement, issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, reaffirmed Seyi Tinubu’s entitlement to pursue business interests both domestically and internationally.
Atiku Abubakar had raised concerns about the awarding of the contract to Hitech Construction Company Ltd, citing Seyi Tinubu’s association with CDK Integrated Industries, a subsidiary of the Chagoury Group, the parent company of Hitech.
However, the Presidency dismissed Atiku’s allegations as hypocritical, pointing to Atiku’s own business ventures during his tenure as Vice President. Onanuga highlighted Atiku’s involvement in Intels Nigeria and his approval of significant privatization deals during his time in office.
Addressing Atiku’s claim that the Chagourys own CDK, Onanuga clarified that General TY Danjuma (rtd) is the chairman and largest shareholder of the company. He emphasized Seyi Tinubu’s status as an adult with the right to engage in lawful business endeavors.
The statement further refuted any conflict of interest between Seyi Tinubu’s position on the CDK board and Hitech Construction Company’s involvement in the Lagos-Calabar Coastal highway project. It stressed that Seyi Tinubu’s affiliation with CDK predates the contract award and is unrelated to familial connections.
